Property Detail
At Mamiku, the hills are alive with birdsong and the whisper of the Atlantic breeze through the woods.
Mamiku Hills is a unique development nestled in a family-owned, former sugar plantation near Praslin Bay, Saint Lucia, which offers an exciting investment opportunity and the dream of owning a piece of this unspoilt island paradise.
A subdivision of the Mamiku Estate, the entire area is steeped in history, with a fascinating trail leading back to 1766 when 1200 acres were purchased by Baron Guy de Micoud after he married Marie Anne Devaux, who became Madame de Micoud. The Creolised name of the estate became ‘Mamiku.’
The Shingleton-Smith family has owned the estate since 1906, after the demise of its sugar production era, when it was purchased by Henry who developed coconut growing at Mamiku; his son Michael went on to diversify into bananas and tropical flowers in the 1980s.
The current matriarch of the family is a world-renowned landscape designer and founder of the 22 acre Mamiku Gardens, one of the most outstanding botanical gardens in Saint Lucia, located on the site of the original House of Micoud.
Veronica Shingleton-Smith came to St Lucia from England in 1952 when her father was stationed here, married into the family who'd arrived in 1906 and has lived on the island ever since. In addition to growing Fairtrade bananas for the UK market, she has designed gardens across the island for hotels such as Cap Maison, Discovery at Marigot Bay, and most recently the grounds at Sugar Beach Residences, spectactularly poised between the iconic Pitons in Soufriere.
“Our vision in creating Mamiku Hills . . . is to facilitate others enjoying the peace and tranquility that Mamiku has to offer, while keeping with a sustainable land use, to preserve both the ambiance and value of the land for residents,” states Mrs. Shingleton-Smith.
